Healthy Thoughts and Emotions for Teens

We know that many teens are experiencing increasing levels of stress without having adequate resources and coping strategies. Teenagers need support, resources, and strategies for learning how to develop healthy thoughts and emotions. In the Healthy Thoughts and Emotions for Teens Care Group, we are using The Teens' Workbook to Self-Regulate: Empowering Teenagers to Handle Emotion with Success Through Coping Strategies and CBT Exercises. The workbook is broken down into two parts: cognitive techniques and behavioral techniques. The goal is to provide teens with exercises that reinforce the following skills:

  • Understanding of the impact of negative thinking in shaping beliefs, motivations, and worldviews

  • Learning how to identify, describe, and manage strong emotions without hurting themselves or others

  • Finding healthy options for coping with stress and anxiety

  • Knowing how and when to stop, breathe, and return to a calm state when feeling overwhelmed

In this Care Group for guys and girls, teens will learn and practice various techniques for self-regulation, create their own toolkit of useful skills to manage stress and anxiety, and understand the strength of having a relationship with Jesus.
